Focus

I seem to struggle with focus when taking pictures. I tend to use my 50mm lens when taking pics of the kids around the house. This lens allows me to open the lens more allowing more light to get in. Because I can get this lens open as wide as 1.8 I seem to want to use 1.8 most of the time. I don't think, however, this allows for great focus. Here are some pictures of Josh taken in our favorite spot; me sitting on the couch and him at my feet. The two windows behind me usually provide nice catchlights. I change my AF points all the time so many times when photographing the kids, they move which causes my focal point to be in the wrong spot. I thought these pictures of Josh had pretty good focus on his eyes. It's a bit tough to see here since the pictures are small. I'm still learning and practicing! If there were only more hours in the day to play!

  1. I have battled with focus on my 50 1.8 since the day I got it. I'm like you....if it CAN go to 1.8, my brain thinks it SHOULD go to 1.8 as often as possible. Once I learned to close down a bit, I don't hate the 50 as much as I used to. (But then I got the 85 1.8 and FELL IN LOVE.) Keep at it, the shots you've got here look great!
